In February of 2022 I took part in a socially engaged photography project in the Manchester borough of Clayton.
The aim of the project was to show a more positive side to Clayton than it’s known for, also to bring mmore attention to the people/community that live here. This allowed me as a photographer to delve deep into the relationships of the people i photographed and allowed me to gain a backstory to the images i produced. It also allowed me to gain a real connection to the people and places.

I was able to get communities such as the local church, boxing club involved as well as a few local businesses and more. It was great to get an insight into different people’s lives in Clayton. The project was in collaboration with charitable housing associaltion, One Manchester and i hope the project can develop further.

Lucy Warburton
Lucy Warburton is a photographer based in Manchester, currently studying BA (Hons) Photography at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Lucy focuses on landscape and portrait/story photography as well as occasionally collage work and film based work. Through capturing different types of photography Lucy broadens her range of work, Her main take away from photography is about capturing a story. If a picture can capture a place, person or a moment and tell a story then it’s a good photograph.
